The Authority of Bible as Inspired Word of God

Abstract

This paper examined the authority of the bible as inspired word of God, Bible is considered the inspired Word of God, detailing creation events, human history, and God's plan for redemption through Jesus Christ. The number of the books in the Bible differs between the Catholics and Protestants: Catholics had seventy-three books and Protestants had sixty six books. The two major divisions in the Bible are Old Testament and New Testament. These are sub-divided as: the Pentateuch, historical books, poetry or wisdom books, Prophetic books, Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Letters of Paul and revelation of John. The authority of the Bible did not depend on whether mankind cooperates with it or understands it. Its authority depends on the power and supremacy of its Author “God”. The words in the Bible is God’s breath. Which means scripture is God speaking and thus has the final say in all matters. The researcher concluded that despite being written by over 40 authors over 1,500 years, the Bible maintains a consistent narrative regarding God's relationship with humanity. The researcher recommended that: 1. since the scriptures were sealed and birthed in miracles. It is recommended that people should believe and put their trust in the scriptures, and belie that they may have enjoy its authority. 2. The bible addresses many issues bordering the lives of every individual and proffer solutions to every problem. So, the need to make as a mirror for viewing rights and wrongs.
