Impact of Classical and Philosophical Teachings of Ancient Political Philosophers on Good Governance and State-Building

Abstract

This paper tries to briefly discuss the contributions of the ideas of classical political philosophers in today's politics. Highlights from philosophers such as Montesquieu, Aristotle, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean Jack Rousseau, A. V. Dicey, Nicolo Machiavelle, and Cicero are examined, revealing key aspects of how their works creates impact on modern states and governance. This paper let us realize how interesting and educative the teachings of these great political philosophers are. The paper also tries to position classical political thoughts as a foundation upon which modern government stand, especially democratic government around the world. The selected philosophers in this essay have indeed impacted modern politics through their political ideologies, and the objective of this paper is to reveal and discuss how the intellectual Philosophical contributions of these philosophers created a lasting influence on politics and governance of the world.
