Challenges of School Digitalization on Teacher's Competence in Private Secondary Schools in Nigeria

Dideolu Florence Adekogbe, Afolakemi Olasumbo Oredein

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies has transformed the education sector, presenting opportunities and challenges for private secondary schools in Nigeria. This paper explores the challenges of school digitalization on teacher competence, highlighting the role of digital leadership, technological infrastructure, and teacher professional development. Using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology as a framework, we examine the factors influencing teachers' adoption and use of digital technologies. The paper discusses school digitalization and teacher’s competence, including improved digital skills, enhanced student engagement, and increased efficiency. However, it also highlights challenges such as resistance to change, digital divide, cybersecurity concerns, and limited funding. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for effective digital leadership, teacher training, and infrastructure support to ensure successful school digitalization and improved teacher competence. It also highlighted the development of a digitalization strategy, investing in teacher training, ensuring equitable access for all and effective monitoring and evaluation as way forward to overcoming the challenges.
