Impact of Insecurity on the Educational Participation of Christian Students in Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of insecurity on the educational participation of Christian students in Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, Nigeria, with the primary aim of evaluating how insecurity affects their engagement in education. The study population comprised 3,788 students, from which a random sample of 551 respondents was selected to represent the larger population. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that insecurity in Agwara Local Government Area significantly disrupts the educational participation of Christian students, resulting in absenteeism, school dropout, reduced enrolment, and limited involvement in school activities. The study concluded that insecurity is a major hindrance to the educational participation of Christian students, leading to similar adverse effects on attendance, retention, and engagement. In light of these findings, it is recommended that government and security agencies enhance security measures around schools, including regular patrols and community policing, to create a safer learning environment. Additionally, school authorities and local communities JPASWR jpaswr should introduce awareness and support initiatives, such as counselling services and safe transport arrangements, to promote consistent attendance and reduce dropout rates among affected students.
