Analysis of Environment and Climate Changes on Skill Acquisition of Students in Technical Colleges

Abstract

This study dealt on analysis of environment and climate changes on skill acquisition of students in technical colleges. The study adopted descriptive survey design. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Technical and vocational teachers and students in four technical colleges in Ebonyi State were used in the study. Structured questionnaire validated by three experts was used as instrument for data collection and its reliability was obtained through trial testing on 20 technical and vocational teachers and students in Government Technical College, Enugu. Their responses on the instrument were collected and analysed, using Cronbach Alpha and an index of 0.93, and 0.84 respectively for each cluster were obtained. Data were collected on ninety-four (94) respondents and responses were analyzed using mean with standard deviation, while hypotheses were tested using T- test statistics. The study found that environment and climate change adaptation and mitigation enhanced skills of students in technical colleges. It was also revealed in the study that there was no significant difference in mean responses of respondents on analysis of environment and climate changes on skill acquisition of student’s climate change adaptation and mitigation. The researchers recommend among others, that climate change and environmental education should be integrated in Tve curriculum to enhance students' knowledge on climate change adaptation and mitigation.
