Online Collaboration and Organizational Performance of Tech Firms in Bayelsa State

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between online collaboration and organisational performance of tech firms in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined how workgroup cooperation and task collaboration relate to organisational performance. A cross- sectional survey research design was adopted. The population comprised all employees of two selected tech firms (TEESOFT and RECONSOFT) totaling twenty-two (22) staff, and a census sampling technique was employed due to the small population size. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measured on a five-point Likert scale. The instrument was validated by experts in management and information technology, while a pilot test produced a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.82. Data collected were analysed using the Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient with the aid of SPSS version 25. Findings revealed that online collaboration significantly influences organisational performance. Workgroup cooperation showed a moderately strong positive and significant relationship with organisational performance (r = 0.551, p < 0.01), while task collaboration exhibited a stronger positive and significant relationship (r = 0.627, p < 0.01). These results suggest that effective online collaboration enhances productivity, efficiency, innovation, and overall performance of tech firms. The study concludes that fostering collaborative practices through digital platforms is critical for improving organisational outcomes. It therefore recommends that tech firms invest in reliable digital infrastructure and promote cooperative work practices through team-building initiatives and structured online collaboration tools to enhance performance, particularly in resource- constrained environments such as Bayelsa State.
