Abstract

This research work saddled to study the application of GIS and Remote Sensing (RS) Techniques in geospatial mapping of gully erosion statuses of an Alfisols in Yola South LGA. Bole farmland was selected where expansion and development of gully was geospatially mapped out for the period of 20 years (2004-2024) at interval of five (5) years using GIS and RS techniques. The results reveal a concerning trend of increasing gully erosion, with significant growth in affected areas over the years. The highest percentage of increase occurred at 2014-2019 with about 58,069.00 m2 (65.5 %) and in 2019-2024was increased with 14,154.00 m2 (15.97 %). The total area affected in the area within the study period was 88,627.00 m2 caused by heavy rainfall and deforestation. Therefore, there are needs for effective land management practices, policy interventions, and community engagement to mitigate the effects of gully erosion.
