Design and Implementation of a Smart Phone System Using Internet of Things
Abstract
The growing integration of the Internet of Things with mobile technology has led to the advancement of a high performance systems for managing and connecting with everyday devices. Smartphones, with their powerful processing capabilities, wireless connectivity, and advanced sensors, are highly suitable candidates for controlling IoT devices. This research focuses on the design and implementation of a smartphone-based IoT system, utilizing MQTT for effective communication and Firebase for cloud-based data storage and synchronization. The designed system aims to provide end-users with real-time control, monitoring, and automation of IoT- enabled devices, specifically within the frame work of home automation. An android-based mobile application was developed using the Rapid Application Development model to serve as end- user interface for monitoring and controlling IOT devices such as sensors and actuators, tested in a home automation context using ESP32 microcontrollers through simulated and prototype-based evaluations. The study addresses several critical challenges, including effective communication, security, and system scalability. The implementation of the system is validated through performance testing, which demonstrates its responsiveness, reliability, and user satisfaction. The results highlight the potential of smartphone-controlled IoT systems for enhancing user convenience, energy efficiency, and overall quality of life.
