Achieving Sustainability and Resilience in the Design of a Proposed Eco Resort in Degema, Rivers State

Abstract

This study investigates how sustainable and resilient architectural design strategies can be integrated into the planning and designing of an eco-resort in Degema, Rivers State. Considering the pressing environmental challenges and the need to promote eco-tourism, this study explores how innovative eco-resort design can serve as a viable solution, using principles of sustainability and resilience. This study aims to demonstrate how to achieve sustainability and resilience in the design of a proposed eco resort in Degema, Rivers State, Nigeria. The objective is to illustrate how this eco-resort can not only conserve the region's rich cultural heritage but also provide tangible benefits to the local community while enhancing the overall experience for visitors. The research method used in this study is the qualitative research method, focusing on non-numerical data collection that encompasses insights, opinions, and personal experiences. The research employs comprehensive case studies and detailed analysis of similar eco-friendly projects both within Nigeria and around the globe, highlighting successful practices and lessons learned. This work emphasizes the significance of incorporating sustainable design methodologies and resilient strategies in the development process. It advocates for an eco-conscious design philosophy that minimizes environmental degradation while maximizing cultural and social benefits. The findings advocate for several key strategies: preserving local cultural identity through design, utilizing sustainable building materials, blending harmoniously with the surrounding nature, optimizing energy efficiency through passive design techniques, implementing effective waste management systems, and ensuring high indoor and environmental air quality.
