Quality Control: A Panacea for Efficient Project Delivery in BIU Metropolis

Abstract

This study explores the role of quality control (QC) in enhancing project delivery efficiency within Biu Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria. The primary objectives of the research are to identify key challenges affecting QC practices, evaluate the impact of effective QC on project outcomes, and propose strategies for improvement. Data were gathered through the distribution of 60 questionnaires to construction professionals, with 52 valid responses analysed using mean scores and standard deviations to prioritize key findings. The results highlighted several critical challenges, including insufficient funding (Mean Score = 4.50), lack of skilled labour (Mean Score = 4.40), and poor communication among stakeholders (Mean Score = 4.35), which hinder the successful implementation of QC. On the positive side, the study finds that effective QC practices significantly enhance project outcomes, including timely delivery (Mean Score = 4.45), reduction in rework costs (Mean Score = 4.40), and improved client satisfaction (Mean Score = 4.35). Based on these findings, the study recommends implementing continuous training programs (Mean Score = 4.45), conducting regular inspections and audits (Mean Score = 4.40), and improving communication among stakeholders (Mean Score = 4.35) as key strategies to address QC-related challenges. These recommendations are consistent with existing literature and are vital for strengthening QC practices, thereby improving project delivery in Biu Metropolis. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by identifying region-specific QC challenges, demonstrating the significant role of QC in enhancing project efficiency, and offering practical recommendations to promote quality-driven project management in the construction industry.
