Nimkur, Mercy Stanley, PhD, Sambo, Maiyaki, PhD

Abstract

It is believable that human resource development is the cornerstone for enhancing the dynamism and competence of workers. This is because it makes workers acquire job related ideas that could make them more efficient in job performance. But there is a general notion that most organizations and institutions are apathetic in providing human resource development programmes for their employees. That makes the employees inefficient and lackadaisical in job performance. The research work; "human resource development as determinants of effectiveness in job performance of lecturers in Kebbi State University" is designed to investigate the effort toward enhancing the competence of workers. Target population of the study was 617 participants. Sample of the study was 242 respondents. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane's model for sample size determination. Instrument for data collection was the researchers' structured questionnaire and interview schedule which was used to elicit responses from the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance using regression analysis and the associated ANOVA. The researcher found out that though human resource development, determines effectiveness of workers, it is not being taken seriously. The study recommended that effort should be intensified on human resource development in order to enhance job performance and realization of goals.
