Assessment of Human Resource Management and Its Effect on Job Performance of Lecturers in Adamawa State University Mubi, Nigeria

Abstract

The most vital and critical component of any organization or institution is the human resource. Human resource is considered important because they are the service providers that lead to success and attainment of the organizational goals. Their effective management for sustenance of an organization is required. This is because appropriate human resource management is the cornerstone for achieving organizational success. However, there are series of research reports that most employees are inefficient and apathetic in job performance. This study "Assessment of human resource management and its effect on job performance of lecturers in Adamawa State University Mubi, Nigeria" assessed human resource management and whether it has a significant impact on job performance of employees. This is because there is a general notion that many employees lack the zeal and enthusiasm required for effective job performance. Appropriate management will inspire and spur them to work for attainment of goals. The study is a correlational survey research design. target population of the study was 589. sample of the study was 238 respondents. The sample size was obtained using Taro Yamane's technique. instrument for data collection was the researchers' structured questionnaire and Interviews. Four research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Specifically, the research questions were answered using mean and rank. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using regression analysis and the associated ANOVA. Findings of the study indicated that the cause of low job performance of workers is inappropriate human resource management. The study recommended that managers of institutions and organizations should intensify effort toward appropriate human resource management in order to maximize effort of workers in job performance for attainment of goals. jpaswr
