Relevance of the Holy Spirit for Effective Church Curriculum Implementation

Abstract

The church is saddled with the responsibility of bringing members to maturity in Christ. This responsibility is fulfilled only through the educational task of the church with the use of different curricula. The curriculum is all the resources and experiences within a teaching-learning situation that help achieve educational goals. According to Colson and Rigdon (1969), curriculum is “the sum of all learning experiences resulting from a curriculum plan.” In order words, curriculum is something that is deliberately planned for in order to achieve educational goals. The church curriculum is therefore, the total experience the church offers to church members for the total spiritual formation of members. The church curriculum is something deliberately planned with the intention of making church members come to the knowledge of Jesus and also live for Him daily. Thus, the church curriculum must be Christ centered, Bible based and life applied. However, if the church curriculum will achieve the goal of making members Christlike and living for Him daily, the Holy Spirit must be involved in the educational task of the church. The Holy Spirit is the transforming agent in the education ministry of the church and has the potency to transform and mold the lives of men for the use of the master. This paper will examine the relevance of the Holy Spirit for effective implementation of the church curriculum The paper will address the topics of the person of the Holy Spirit, the church curriculum, the concept of curriculum implementation, and The Holy Spirit in church curriculum implementation.
