Improving Clients and Professional Surveyors’ Relationship, A Case of Irregular Shapes with Acute Angles

Abstract

For a professional relationship to be improved and sustained, there is a need to have an understanding between the professional and the client. The need for professional networking is relevant for the growth of the professional and a regular service provision to the client. The study is relevant to put an end to the professional misinterpretation experienced by professionals regarding the abuse they get from the client, and the misinterpretation of the client regarding their cadastral properties. The client often thinks that the property in question has been poorly surveyed or that the professional is not good enough. The client does not consider the acuteness of their cadastral properties but concerns themselves with the distances and not the suspended angles of their properties. Many professionals in the Surveying industry from different walks of life, ranging from academics to government surveying departments and private surveying practitioners, have shared their experience and opinions regarding the study. A careful examination has been done by the study to compare the accuracy between contemporary ways of computing shapes and the coordinate computations that the surveyors consider most accurate. While the contemporary results tend to give an expanded value, the coordinate computation gives a concise value. Findings show that when regular shapes are compared, the results of the contemporary and the coordinate methods of computations share similar values as the area of the property. If the shapes are irregular, the contemporary methods tend to give results without considering the suspended angles, while the coordinate method of computation considers the angles and distances in all cases. In conclusion, the client needs to be educated on the mathematics and science of computation to reduce the abuse and trust the decisions of the professional to advise them with best practices regarding their cadastral properties.
