Cultural Promotion: A Panacea for Sustainable Development in Bayelsa State

Abstract

Culture have been widely acknowledged as having a positive correlation with development, but it has been discovered that despite its importance for development, most states in Nigeria including Bayelsa is yet to key into the importance of this sector. In fact, it has been observed that the state for a long time has been depending on federal allocation, which had decay the economy due to lack of diversification. However, it was also discovered that certain challenges may be the causes of these such as lack of cultural policy. Lack of protecting and preserving the heritage, neglect of the cultural practices among others are the main bottleneck. This journal is bend to identify the several ways in promoting cultural activities for sustainable development such as the production of Craft/Arts, cultural festivals, local Bayelsa dishes, promotion of the regalia among others will be discussed and several issues on the way forward for Bayelsa and Nigeria at large will be recommended such as the promotion of cultural festival, encouragement of traditional fashion dresses, local dishes, regalia, etc.
