A Conceptual Framework for Successful Implementation of TAM Projects in Oil Refineries

Abstract

This study developed a conceptual framework for the successful implementation of turnaround maintenance projects in oil refineries in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria. A survey was conducted using qualitative and quantitative research approaches, as well as a census sampling technique, to select a sample size of 78 practitioners at an oil refinery in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. A well-structured questionnaire, semi-structured discussions, personal observations, and site visits were employed to collect data from respondents at the oil refinery. The DEMATEL findings were analysed using programmed software. The study included respondents' responses into the DEMATEL approach using the nine (9) important success elements for TAM deployment in oil refineries. The conceptual framework provides a thorough roadmap for establishing a successful TAM project, which can considerably improve TAM project delivery when used correctly by oil refinery specialists. The framework also identified important components and decision support centres for synchronising processes and realising practitioners' dreams in oil refineries. The study also discovered that during the validation process, the outcome of the results and the standard deviation across all of the essential success elements of TAM and conceptual framework attributes led to an increase in consensus among respondents. Both methods achieved high levels of consistency, as evidenced by the mean values and percentage of perfect agreement between responses. The criteria for robust top management support were identified as adequate in facilitating the framework for the implementation of TAM projects in oil refineries, as was the agreement that TAM projects would be completed within the expected time frame. This study suggests that successful TAM projects in Nigerian oil refineries necessitate top management backing, qualified workers, and a comprehensive approach to ensuring timely petroleum product releases and economic growth.
