Abstract

This study evaluates the extent and impacts of petroleum hydrocarbon pollution in soils in Bayelsa State, Nigeria, due to illegal artisanal refining. Soil analysis showed extremely high concentrations of TPH and PAHs, far exceeding regulatory intervention limits. The findings point to severe ecological and human health concerns, necessitating urgent targeted remediation and stronger enforcement of environmental regulations.
