Security and Economic Implications of Xenophobic Attacks on Foreign Nationals in South Africa

Abstract

This paper investigates the security and economic implications of xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Adopting the Group Threat theory, the study found that frequent attacks negatively affect bilateral and multilateral relations between South Africa and other African countries. It recommends that NGOs and religious groups monitor the mental conditions of refugees and that community perspectives are integrated into solutions.
