The Role of Guidance and Counselling in Preventing Suicide
Abstract
This study examines the critical role of guidance and counselling services in suicide prevention among young adults. Using a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 384 respondents aged 18-35 years. Results revealed that 68.2% of respondents who accessed counselling services reported decreased suicidal thoughts, while regression analysis showed a significant negative relationship between counselling intervention and suicidal ideation. The findings demonstrate that professional guidance and counselling services serve as protective factors against suicide, with accessibility, frequency of sessions, and counsellor competence emerging as significant predictors. The study recommends increased investment in counselling infrastructure and training.
