Adedotun Aderele Araromi, Keshinro Rasheed Ayodele, Solaja Adebimpe Aderonke

Abstract

The incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into the assessment of student learning in public examinations in Nigeria presents an available opportunity for the education sector. This review examines the benefits, challenges, and imminent prospects associated with the use of AI grading of assessments in Nigeria, with a focus on improving the accuracy, objectivity and proficiency in public examinations such as WASSCE (WAEC), SSCE (NECO), and UTME (JAMB). Major benefits include increased efficacy, objectivity, on-time feedback, and consistency. Conversely, challenges such as inadequate infrastructural resources, high implementation costs, and ethical/data privacy concerns must be addressed. The study recommends cooperation between government and private sectors to create a reliable framework for AI-driven assessment.
