Socio-Economic Displacement and Security of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) In North Central Nigeria

Abstract

The relationship between socio-economic displacement and security of IDPs in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria, as occasioned by banditry and violent conflict, was examined. The study adopted the Queer Ladder Theory (QLT). It was discovered that violent conflicts arising from banditry have destroyed huge infrastructures and displaced numerous people, leaving them to embrace armed resistance or criminal violence as a means of surviving. The study recommends that the Nigerian government should strategize to create meaningful employment for trapped youths.
