Abstract

This study analysed the Assessment of Computed Tomography imaging parameters and techniques for exposure optimization at Federal Teaching Hospital Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, A prospective experimental design analysed total of 150 patients were collected from the General Electric 64-slice scanner, covering 6 routine CT examination: brain without contrast media, chest without contrast media, abdomen without contrast media, abdomen with contrast media, abdomen and chest(AC) with contrast media, and chest, abdomen, head (CAH) with contrast media. scan parameters and dose levels were Compared them internationally established diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) and see if better optimization is been practice. Result revealed that procedures such as Head perfusion CT (mean CTDIvol 39.0 mGy, DLP 49.0 mGy.cm) and thoracic (CTDIvol 9.00 mGy. DLP 11.0 mGy.cm) exceeded international DRLs (Figures 1, 3). The study has provided a comprehensive evaluation of CT imaging practices at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, focusing on demographics, scan parameters, and radiation dose delivery for head, chest, and abdominal examinations. Additionally, it recommends Establishment of Local DRLs Develop Nigeria-specific diagnostic reference levels for head, chest, and abdomen CT examinations to provide context-appropriate dose benchmarks.
