Abstract

The study examined Stress Management Strategies as Rubrics for Accounting Personnel Performance in Universities in Rivers State. Three specific objectives, research questions and null hypotheses respectively were posed and formulated for the study. The study adopted correlational research design. The population of the study consists of one hundred and eighty- three (183) accounting personnel from the three Universities in Rivers State. There was no sampling as the entire population was used for the study, the reason was that the population size is manageable. Two questionnaires that was self-structured by the researcher was used for data collection, the instrument was titled “Stress Management Strategies (QSMS)” and “Accounting Personnel Performance in Universities in Rivers State (QAPP)”. The instrument was validated by three experts, one in Measurement and Evaluation and others from Business Education department. The instruments were structured on a 4-point likert scale of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly Disagree. In order to establish the reliability of the instrument that was used for the study, test re-test method was adopted, scores obtained were correlated using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and it yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.86 and 0.81 which revealed that the instruments are suitable for the study. Data collected was analyze using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient to answer research questions and hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance using SPSS version 28. Based on the findings the study concludes that there is a strong positive relationship between Stress Management Strategies and for Accounting Personnel Performance in Universities in Rivers State. It was also concluded that the adoption of changing work strategy, job sharing strategy, and counselling strategy can reduce stress for effective job performance of accounting personnel in universities in Rivers
