Nigeria: Morality and Politics

Anokwuru Christian Uche PhD

Abstract

This work posits that there is a chasm between governance and morality. Unfortunately, where morality is separated from governance, corruption is the resultant effect and nothing works efficiently. In this situation, human, social, and economic development becomes practical impossibility and theoretical absurdity. To ensure a healthy Nigeria known for justice, peace and development, a Nigerian disassociated from Hobbesian state of nature, morality and ethical values should be appropriated and given credence by our political leaders. It is against this background that governments need to put several measures in place so as to ensure that the aspect of ethics and morality plays an important role in its functions. This will result in a justly moral and ethical society which is what will make life better for the people. The work submits that the time to build this culture of morality is now as the political culture devoid of morality has adversely affected us and is dangerously destroying Nigeria.
