Information Management Strategies and Effective Recruitment in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector

Gbafah, Beauty Lemabari, Edori, Vivian Daniel

Abstract

This study examines the impact of information management strategies on effective recruitment in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, emphasizing the roles of data governance and access control in both internal and external recruitment. Using a quantitative research design, primary data were collected from 120 employees across major oil and gas firms. Descriptive statistics and regression analyses were applied to test the relationships among the study variables. The results reveal a strong positive correlation between data governance and internal recruitment (r = 0.742, p < 0.000), as well as between data governance and external recruitment (r = 0.716, p < 0.000). Similarly, access control showed significant correlations with internal recruitment (r = 0.689, p < 0.000) and external recruitment (r = 0.703, p < 0.000). These findings indicate that firms with effective data governance and strict access control systems experience more transparent, efficient, and merit-based recruitment processes. The study concludes that robust information management frameworks are crucial for achieving efficient, transparent, and merit-based recruitment in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The study recommends that oil and gas firms strengthen their data governance frameworks, adopt role-based access systems, provide continuous training on information security, and integrate digital recruitment platforms to improve efficiency and organizational competitiveness.
