Administrative Control and Employee Performance in Parastatals in Rivers State

Abstract

This study examined the effect of Administrative Control and Employee Job Performance in Parastatals in Rivers State. The purpose was to examine the extent to which administrative control affects employee job performance. Five research questions and hypotheses were formulated to examine the effect of administrative control on employee job performance. Administrative control was measured by environmental control, risk assessment, activity control and information control while employee job performance was measured by employee job turnover, employee productivity, and employee job satisfaction and employee quantity of output. A survey research design was adopted. The target population of this study was employees working in the 20 parastatals with 10,313 employees in Rivers State. The sample size for the study which was arrived at with the use of Yamane’s formula, was three hundred and eighty-six (386). Descriptive statistics and spearman rank correlation coefficient were used to determine the relationship between the administrative control and employee job performance. Findings of the study revealed that there is significant relationship between environmental control and employee job turnover at a correlation coefficient of 0.513; significant relationship between environmental control and employee productivity at a correlation coefficient of 0.532; significant relationship between environmental control and employee job satisfaction at a correlation coefficient of 0.560; significant relationship between environmental control and employee quantity of output at a correlation coefficient of 0.512.
