Abstract

This study titled “Enhancing the Security of Information Resources in Adamawa State University Library” examined the factors influencing the protection and sustainable management of information assets within the university library. The objectives were to identify existing security measures, determine challenges affecting information protection, assess staff ICT competence, and propose sustainable strategies for improvement. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from 46 professional and paraprofessional library staff using a structured questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, including Pearson correlation and multiple regression, were employed. Findings revealed that the library has implemented essential security measures such as access controls, surveillance systems, antivirus protection, and data backup routines. Staff exhibited high levels of ICT competence (M = 3.69, SD = 0.46), and security strategies were rated effective (M = 3.92, SD = 0.37). However, moderate challenges including limited ICT infrastructure, inadequate training, and poor funding (M = 2.75, SD = 0.58) were identified as major barriers. Correlation analysis showed significant positive relationships between ICT competence, security strategies, and effective resource management, while security challenges had a negative correlation (r = –0.652, p < 0.05). Regression results indicated that ICT competence, security strategies, and challenges jointly explained 62.1% of the variance in information resource management (R² = 0.621). The study concluded that information resource security in the library is largely determined by staff ICT competence, the robustness of security measures, and the extent of infrastructural and financial challenges.
