Use of Artificial Intelligence in Automated Warfare: The Israel - Gaza Conflict

Abstract

The fact that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly integrated into military systems has transformed the modern warfare and changed approaches, tactics, and ethical perspectives. This paper will look at the application of AI in automatic warfare with a special consideration of the Israel-gaza war. It examines the ways in which the use of AI-based technologies by Israel, such as autonomous drones, predictive targeting software, and algorithmic surveillance systems have revolutionized the efficiency of combat and intelligence activities. The history provides insights into the globalization of AI into the military and its consequences to international security, humanitarian law, and ethics. As the problem statement indicates, it lacks proper legal frameworks and accountability mechanisms that can be used to regulate the use of AI in lethal operations, especially in the civilian-populated area like Gaza. The literature review has summarized the academic views on dual nature; as a strategic benefit and a humanitarian threat of AI. It talks about the way AI increases accuracy, speed, and the situational awareness and at the same time brings new challenges of transparency, bias on algorithms and ethical accountability. Also, in the review, it is noted that AI-assisted systems may help to minimize operational risks to soldiers, though they may be harmful to civilians when there is no meaningful human control over their use. The analysis is qualitative, as it crucially makes use of secondary data such as policy reports, human rights organizations, and peer-reviewed scholarly publications on the topic to investigate ethical, legal, and operational aspects of the use of AI in warfare. The results indicate that despite the fact that AI has advanced the military intelligence and targeting capabilities of Israel, it has also led to the increase of the issues of accountability, proportionality, as well as the violation of hum
