Proximate Analysis of Cattle Abdominal Waste for the Production of Quality Fertilizer
Abstract
This study investigated the potential of cattle abdominal waste as a viable raw material for producing high-quality organic fertilizer. The experiment focused on proximate analysis of the waste to determine its nutrient content and suitability for composting or anaerobic digestion. Parameters such as pH, total solids, organic matter, moisture content, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and ash content were examined before and after digestion. Experimental data were statistically analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Mean values, standard deviations, and percentage differences were computed to assess nutrient variations between predigested and digested samples. A biogas digester was designed and constructed for controlled anaerobic digestion. The system was fed with measured quantities of cattle abdominal waste and water at a ratio of 1:1. Digestion was allowed to proceed for several weeks under mesophilic conditions. Experimental data were statistically analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Mean values, standard deviations, and percentage differences were computed to assess nutrient variations between predigested and digested samples. Results revealed that the digested waste had higher concentrations of essential plant nutrients and reduced harmful organic load. The findings demonstrate that cattle abdominal waste can be efficiently converted into environmentally friendly organic fertilizer, contributing to sustainable agricultural productivity and effective waste management in abattoirs.
