Abstract

Particulate and gaseous pollutants were the products found in flue gas during incineration of municipal solid wastes. Therefore, a method of reducing those pollutants is adopted in this research. Incinerator was designed and constructed. Samples of refuse were collected from college of engineering, university of Agriculture, Makurdi and incinerated. Flue gas samples were collected before and after cleaning and were taken to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Port Harcourt for chemical analysis and chromatograph test to determine the chemical composition. The result of the analysis shows that only oxygen and carbon dioxide were found in the sample. The solid particles were removed. During the cleaning, the flue gas was passed through the reactor which consist of calcium carbonate (Ca2CO3), activated carbon and water.
