Influence of Social Media on the Delivery of Christian Religious Studies Curriculum in FCT, Abuja

ISHAYA, Daniel, Edward Zaman HILLARY, PETER, Ketura Kaka

Abstract

This research investigated the influence of social media on the delivery of the Christian Religious Studies curriculum in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The primary aim was to assess how social media impacts the teaching and learning processes of Christian Religious Studies within the area. From a total Christian population of 11,876, a representative sample of 429 respondents was randomly chosen for the study. Employing a descriptive survey design, data were gathered using a structured questionnaire as the principal research instrument. The findings revealed that social media significantly enhances the teaching and learning of Christian Religious Studies by promoting active participation and improving access to instructional resources. However, challenges such as poor internet connectivity, lack of institutional guidelines, limited digital competence, and exposure to inappropriate content hinder its optimal use. Based on these findings, the study recommends that educational institutions and policymakers establish clear guidelines and training programs to strengthen teachers’ digital proficiency and ethical use of social media. Additionally, government and school administrators should enhance internet infrastructure and ensure affordable access to digital devices to facilitate effective integration of social media in Christian Religious Studies curriculum delivery.
