Samauna Nuhu, Alhaji Kawugana PhD, Usman Ibrahim Zwal, Usman Adamu Ibrahim

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption on financial management efficiency in Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria. ICT has revolutionized the way educational institutions manage their finances, providing opportunities for accuracy, accountability, and transparency. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from bursary and finance departments across selected Federal Polytechnics in North-East Nigeria. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including regression analysis, were used to determine the effect of ICT adoption on financial management efficiency. Findings revealed that ICT adoption significantly enhances efficiency in budgeting, revenue collection, expenditure control, reporting, and auditing. However, challenges such as inadequate ICT infrastructure, poor maintenance culture, limited technical skills among staff, and irregular power supply hinder optimal ICT utilization. The study recommends continuous investment in ICT infrastructure, staff training, integration of automated financial systems, and adoption of cloud-based accounting solutions to strengthen accountability and improve financial management processes in Federal Polytechnics.
