Nwelendu, Ikenna Arc Iyerefa, CookeyGam, Arc Abraham, Pyamene

Abstract

The growing environmental impact of the construction, operation, and maintenance of luxury hotels has led to an increased interest in sustainable building materials. This paper explores how five-star hotels can integrate sustainable materials in design and building, the benefits and challenges of doing so, and illustrates best practices drawn from recent studies. The aim is to provide insights into how luxury and sustainability can be balanced in premium hospitality architecture. In recent years, the global hospitality industry has faced increasing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint while maintaining high standards of comfort, aesthetics, and luxury. Five-star hotels, in particular, consume significant resources during construction and operation — from energy-intensive materials to large-scale water usage and waste generation. As a result, architects, developers, and hotel operators are now exploring innovative ways to incorporate sustainable building materials that not only minimize environmental degradation but also enhance long-term economic and social value.
