An Examination of the Effects of Project Management Practices on Road Construction Project Delivery

Abstract

The study's specific goals were to identify the effects of project management practices on road construction project delivery in Imo state, Nigeria. The study included descriptive and survey research design methods of investigation, and a simple random sampling methodology was used to pick a sample size of 151 from a population of 243 respondents using Slovin's formula for sample size determination amongst practitioners. A well-structured questionnaire, as well as personal observations and trips to respondents'/road construction project areas, were used to collect data and conduct surveys. The acquired data was presented in the form of frequency distributions techniques using descriptive statistical techniques provided by IBM SPSS Statistics version 25.0. The major topic of discourse was analysed using multiple regression analysis. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that project activities planning and sequencing (X3), budget implementation (X6), disbursement procedure (X2), standards determination (X5), planning, monitoring, and controlling (X11), and quality control (X12) all had an impact on road construction project delivery in Imo state. It was determined that they are the primary elements influencing the delivery of road development projects in Imo state. The study advises that, proper planning is essential for project management practices because it can affect project timeline, budget, and quality. Adherence to procurement criteria and a comprehensive approach to project management are critical for providing value to users. Imo State practitioners should adopt complete project management methods across twelve knowledge areas to meet project objectives such as time, cost, performance, sustainability, and stakeholder satisfaction.
