Renos Matthew Audu, Yahaya Saleh Garba PhD, Prof Cletus Monday Oyidi

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of training and development on employee job performance within the Jalingo Local Government Council, Taraba State, Nigeria. Training and development is a key indicator of enhancing organizational success, particularly within public institutions where service delivery is critical. Despite its acknowledged importance, many organizations, particularly within the public sector, continue to face challenges such as inadequate training, limited professional career development opportunities, and ineffective motivation strategies. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, using stratified random sampling. From a population of 1,205, a sample size of 291 was determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s (1970) sample size table. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that training and development have a positive influence on employee job performance. However, it was also observed that funding for human capital development is generally inadequate. The study recommends that training and retraining (both on-the-job and off-the-job) be restructured to incorporate digital learning.
