Environmental Impact Assessment of Quarry Activities (A Case Study of Samchase Quarry, Iju Itaogbolu, Ondo State)

A Rotibi, R O Fakolade and C O Ikubuwaje

Abstract

The research work was carried out to determine the impact of mining activity at Iju Itaogbolu on soil and the environment. Soil samples, plants and rock samples were collected from three locations. The soil samples were dry and pulverized into fine particles More also, noise levels were monitored using Extech 407730, it levels were recorded during transportation of materials, drilling, crushing and loading at the administrative building and nearest buildings. Based on the results when monitoring the noise level on various equipment’s and these was compared Some metals like iron have high concentration showing that the environment of Ijero Ekiti is feldspathic in nature. It is obvious from the calculated values on particles per million and for the physical, chemical parameters and also from the laboratory studies on Ijero-Ekiti soil samples that the concentration of these heavy metals detected shows the presence of the
