Abstract

The present escalading cost of fossil fuel and electric power/energy are forcing plant operators and vendors to examine the potential saving and to reduce fuel, power and energy usage. The need for energy recovery from low and medium heat source has gained importance due to increasing price trend of the fossil fuels. Such waste heat is typically in the form of un-burnt but combustible waste materials; sensible and latent heat exhausted from the stacks. The advent of Anaerobic digestion system is considered to be a useful tool that can generate renewable energy and significance in the waste heat recovery and is given rise in recent of theory of anaerobic digestion which has been established for decades; however, a great deal of current research is directed towards the optimization and usage of anaerobic digestion under diverse digestion conditions. This research provides a summary of the processes underlying anaerobic digestion, commonly- utilized measurements of anaerobic sludge, operating parameters of anaerobic digesters, and methods of acceleration and optimization used to generate heat from sludge’s and improve process efficiency.
