TINUBUOLOGY: Deconstructing the Tenacious Leadership and Transitional Ideology of Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Abstract

This paper deconstructs "Tinubuology," the political, economic, and administrative ideology of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria. It traces the evolution of this doctrine through a "transition voice," analysing it as a philosophy fundamentally concerned with managing and engineering profound change. The analysis follows Tinubu’s metamorphosis from a pro-democracy activist during Nigeria’s transition from military rule to his role as the architect of Lagos State’s economic and administrative transition (1999-2007) and finally to his transition from national kingmaker to president in 2023. This paper stresses that the core pillars of Tinubuology are: a fervent commitment to fiscal federalism to transition states from dependency to self-sufficiency; a strategic human capital development program; a pragmatic foreign policy aimed at transitioning Nigeria’s global position; and a deliberate political strategy for national unification. This paper discusses that Tinubu's presidency represents the ultimate test of this ideology, as he attempts to navigate and steer the Nigerian federation through a painful but deliberate economic and political transition. It concludes by offering a robust framework of sustainable policy recommendations for all three tiers of government, and a critical call for a transition in political culture aimed at mitigating immediate hardships while building a resilient and unified nation .
