OKHIRIA, Esi Joy

Abstract

This research was carried out to examine the effects of using video projection for teaching literature in English and its effects on students’ performance in drama in Bwari Area Council. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study, to determine the effects of video projection for teaching literature in English and to determine the effects on the performance of students in drama. The population of the study consist of two thousand, seven hundred and forty-one Senior Secondary students who offer literature in English as a subject, from four Government Senior Secondary Schools in Bwari Area Council. Simple random sampling was used to sample two schools. Simple balloting was adopted to assign the experimental and control groups. A pre-test was conducted to determine the entry profile of the students, after the treatment, a post-test was administered on both the experimental and control groups to determine their performance. Data was collected using a 20-item multiple choice Drama Performance Test (DPT). The instrument was validated by experts in Tests and Measurements to ensure the face and content validity. A test of reliability was done to ensure the reliability of the instrument. The reliability was determined using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The data collected was analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that the video projection helps in advancing the teaching of literature in English as well as improving the performance of students in drama. Therefore, it is recommended that the video projection be adopted by teachers for teaching drama in literature in English.
