Potentials of Solar Energy Use for Enhanced Zero Emissions in Nigeria

Abstract

Purpose: The global effect of greenhouse gas emissions is obvious looking at the unprecedented climate experiences recently and the need to curtail this emission is also obvious. This review aims to critically analyze the potential utility of solar energy in order to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and ensure near zero emissions in Nigeria. Literature Review: Literature have shown that energy radiated is about 3.8x1023 kW which is about 1.082 million ton of oil equivalent per day; this is also about 4000 times the current crude oil production in Nigeria and about 13, 000 times the natural gas daily production. On these basis, current status of solar use and future potentials became an important and interesting subject of study.
