Enhancing Space Utilization in Four-Star Hotels: Maximizing Functionality through Architectural Design

Abstract

In the context of contemporary hotel design, especially within emerging urban centers such as Port Harcourt, Nigeria, the optimization of spatial configurations is crucial to the success of mid-tier hospitality offerings. This journal investigates strategies for enhancing space utilization in a four- star hotel design, balancing functional efficiency with user comfort and operational flow. Drawing on architectural theories, zoning principles, and case study analyses, the paper evaluates how space constraints can be transformed into design opportunities through modular systems, circulation hierarchies, and adaptive layouts. By positioning the architect as both system strategist and experience curator, this study proposes a holistic framework for spatial organization that is cost-effective, sustainable, and culturally responsive. The research concludes by proposing actionable architectural strategies that align with the realities of constrained urban sites while upholding the standards of four-star hospitality.
