Abstract

The existence and survival of mankind depend on availability of food. This becomes attainable in the absence of climate change. This is because research reports have proved that climate change is a major factor that exacerbate food security and sustainable development. This study “Effect of climate change on food security and sustainable development in North-East geo-political zone, Nigeria” is designed to investigate the effect which climate change has on food security and sustainable development in the zone. The study is a correlational survey research. Target population of the study was 1516 literate farmers in the zone. Sample of the study was 316 respondents. The sample was obtained using Taro Yamane’s technique for sample size determination. Researchers structured questionnaire and interviews were the instruments for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The null hypotheses formulated were tested using regression analysis and the associated ANOVA. Findings of the study revealed that climate change is a threat to food security and sustainable development. It was recommended that government and individuals should intensify effort to forestall incidence of climate change in the zone.
