Impact of Poor Housing Planning and Its Effects on Heat Emissions in Lokoja Metropolis

Abstract

Poor housing planning in urban areas contributes significantly to environmental challenges, including increased heat emissions and the exacerbation of urban heat islands (UHIs). In Lokoja Metropolis, Nigeria, rapid urbanization, inadequate urban planning, and substandard housing designs amplify heat retention and emissions, affecting residents' quality of life and environmental sustainability. This review examines the interplay between poor housing planning and heat emissions in Lokoja, exploring contributing factors such as urban sprawl, lack of green spaces, and inefficient building materials. It also assesses the socio-economic and health implications, particularly for low-income communities, and proposes sustainable urban planning strategies to mitigate these effects.
