Abstract

This research examined the Perceptions of Public Servants Towards Post-Retirement Lifestyle and The Impacts on National Security in Nigeria: Implications for Guidance. The study was guided by two objectives, two research questions and two hypotheses. The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design. The population of this study comprised public servants in Nigeria. A sample size of two hundred and fifty (250) public servants was sampled for the study. A self-structured questionnaire titled “Perception of Public Servants Towards Post-Retirement Questionnaire (POPSTP-Q)”. Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean scores and standard deviations were used to analyse the demographic data and answer the research questions while inferential statistics such as t-test was used to test the hypotheses of the study. The study revealed amongst others that the level of preparedness of secondary school public servants is very low and has no gender disparities. The study recommended among others that the government and other stakeholders in education should make the welfare of their workers in Nigeria a priority in order to prepare them for life after retirement.
