Modeling Nutrient Diffusion in Heterogeneous Agricultural Soil with Root Uptake Zones: A Finite Difference Approach

Bello Abdulqadir, Yahya Ahmed, Dahiru Saad Mohammed

Abstract

This study investigates the spatial distribution of nutrient concentration in agricultural soil by modeling steady-state diffusion under heterogeneous conditions. A finite difference numerical approach is applied to simulate nutrient dynamics in a two-dimensional domain, incorporating variable soil diffusivity and multiple root uptake zones represented by Gaussian sinks. The results reveal the interplay between soil heterogeneity and root-induced nutrient absorption, providing valuable insights into nutrient mobility and accumulation patterns. This modeling framework offers a foundation for optimizing fertilizer applications and precision farming techniques.
