Simulation Teaching Techniques for Sustainable Skills Acquisition in Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works in Technical Colleges in Rivers State

Abstract

The study determined simulation teaching techniques for sustainable skills acquisition in electrical installation and maintenance works in technical colleges in Rivers State. A descriptive Survey design was used for the study. The population for the study was 20 teachers and 60 students in technical colleges in Rivers state. The study was carried out in Rivers state. A Structured questionnaire was used as instruments for data collection. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. Cronbach Alpha method was used for the reliability of the instrument which yielded a coefficient of 0.75. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data for answering research questions, while t- test was used to test the hypotheses of no significant difference at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that: the simulation teaching techniques for sustainable skills acquisition in electrical installation and maintenance works in technical colleges if put into practice will improve skill acquisition level of students in technical colleges in Rivers State. The respondents agreed that the simulation teaching techniques is used for sustainable skills acquisition in domestic installation works in technical colleges and that the simulation teaching techniques are used to explain the different levels of controlling the speed of a machine in industrial installation works in technical college. As a result, it was recommended that; the regulatory body (NBTE) should enforce the use of adequate teaching techniques that are required for teaching of domestic installation works in technical colleges and that the students should be ready to adapt to the teaching techniques introduced by the teachers for easy learning of industrial installation skills in technical colleges.
