Leadership and National Security Challenges in Nigeria: Impacts on National Development
Abstract
This article examines the relationship between leadership and national security in Nigeria and their implications for development. It argues that the quality and style of leadership in Nigeria have significant effects on the national security situation and the development prospects of the country. The article uses a qualitative case study approach and employs document analysis and surveying as data collection and analysis methods. The article finds that Nigeria has experienced various forms of leadership challenges and failures, such as corruption, nepotism, authoritarianism, and a lack of vision, which have contributed to the insecurity and underdevelopment of the country. The article also finds that Nigeria has some potential and opportunities for improving its leadership and national security situation, such as democratic consolidation, civil society activism, regional cooperation, and natural resources. The article contributes to the literature on leadership, national security, and development in Nigeria and provides some recommendations for future research, policymaking, and practise improvement in the country.
