Ethical Issues in the Conduct of Examinations

Abstract

Examination occupies a strategic position in our lives and society today. In a situation where the moral principles, rules and regulations for conducting examinations are truncated by either the teacher or the student, the validity and reliability of the examination is being compromised and the integrity of certificate is queried. The management of examination is something that should be reviewed deeply having known the critical role of examination. Talking about the ethical issues, we are all aware of the way examination malpractice has eaten deep into the fabrics of our society. Measures must be taken to improve the quality of examination in our society. The numerous challenges associated with the conduct of examination were mentioned, and suggested remedies proffered. This paper also articulated ethical issues in the conduct of examinations to include engagement of reliable personnels, use of conducive environment and ensuring that learners imbibe good sense of responsibility and good study habit. It also reiterated that carelessness on the part of examination officials could promote examination malpractice. This paper concluded that examination related activities should not be taken lightly and recommended that every effort should be made to properly harness every resource needed to achieve examination objectives.
