Christian Educators’ Response to Possible Effects of Excessive Dependence on Artificial Intelligence Tools on Youths’ Mental Health
Abstract
The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a significant influence on various aspects of human life. While there are numerous benefits from utilising AI tools, excessive dependence on them in education raises concerns, especially with regard to youth mental health. This study examines the possible effects of overreliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools on youth mental health. It explores the role of Christian educators in addressing these challenges. The paper provides an overview of mental health by emphasising its multifaceted nature and encompassing emotional, psychological, cognitive, and social well-being. The paper argues that although AI tools have revolutionised education and have led to improvements and productivity, their overuse among young people raises concerns about mental health implications. Such mental health implications include diminished critical thinking, reduced autonomy, impaired memory skills, and social isolation. Moreover, the paper highlights the role of Christian educators in addressing the excessive usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. The strategies proposed for combating the concern are AI literacy, curriculum development, mental health awareness, and promoting balanced learning approaches. As Christian educators integrate biblical principles and responsible AI use, the negative effect of AI overdependence among youth will be alleviated.
