Applicability of I?lo?rin Yoru?ba? Indigenous Oral Genres in Annihilating Terrorism/Banditry in I?l?orin Emirate of Nigeria
Abstract
Practices of the I?lo?rin Yoru?ba? indigenous oral genres and its roles in securing, maintaining and sustaining peace and tranquility in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized. It is no longer a gainsaying that there are social disturbances almost everywhere in Nigeria. Although, the government has employed series of measures, in the attempt to arrest the situation, these efforts proved to be futile. This research therefore was designed to examine the I?lo?rin Yoru?ba? indigenous oral genres in order to identify and show-case how the thematic trajectories of these genres could be employed for peace and tranquility in I?lo?rin emirate, in particular, and Nigeria in general. Documentary approach of sociology of literature was used as framework. An ethnographic design was adopted for the sociology of the emirate. Data were subjected to content analysis. Suggestions and recommendations were made available to educational institutions, local government, Federal government authorities, via Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), for them to be aware of the efficacy of these oral genres in annihilating terrorism/banditry that is plaguing the Nigerian society.
